Quantify Risk Across the Components (Clusters, VMs, Apps)

Today clients or service providers are not able to quantify the risk across the components of their enterprise due to the following challenges:

  • Compliance is a complex process covering many security processes including but not limited to Patching, Health Check, Identity and Access Management.

  • There is no standard scoring system across the security processes. For patching Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) has been used, however there is no such standard for Health Check and other security processes. In order to aggregate the risk across the different security processes, we need a common scoring system.

  • The sheer volume of (new) vulnerabilities and (changing) regulatory requirements make it hard for an human to be able to understand and objectively assign a risk score manually for each these vulnerabilities and regulatory requirements.

As a result, the majority of the decisions from a compliance perspective are being done without understanding the actual risk that these out of policy issues represent. This presents an opportunity for IBM to differentiate its Compliance Offering by enabling clients making an informed decision based on the quantified risk across the components.
