Need User credentials synchronization between VMM and the ObjectServer if the repository type is ObjectServer repository.
The ObjectServer used for the repository should not be added as a data source.

Not quite sure what you mean here.

We use Object Server authentication. Accounts are created and removed from the ObjectServer by a script syncing with NIS (soon to be LDAP), this assigns user to a group. Authentication via ObjectServer uses NIS (soon to be LDAP). Groups in ObjectServer are assigned roles in WebGUI (manual process) and it all works.

Tools are group based, roles are not assigned to users only to groups. Roles dictate which pages/views the user sees. We assign ncw_user to all groups plus locally defined role plus netcool_ro or netcool_rw as appropriate.
